Accidents can always happen and sometimes it is possible to break down a honeycomb door by hitting it too hard; the repair is not very simple, but not impossible once you have learned how to proceed. This article shows you how.
Steps
Step 1. Inspect the damage
If there is a large hole, you need to fill it in before grouting the surface.
Step 2. Clean the area
-
Remove any bits of material that stick out or flake off.
-
Sand the sharp edges.
-
Remove the dust.
-
Clean the surface with denatured alcohol or another cleaner that leaves no residue.
Step 3. Fill the hole
-
If the break has reached the hollow area of the door, do the following:
-
Insert crumpled kitchen paper into the opening. It should rest just below the edge of the hole.
-
Fill the hole with spray insulation foam.
-
Once the insulation is dry, cut off the excess.
-
Move on to the next step.
-
-
Use a putty knife to putty the damaged surface.
-
You can use plaster or body putty when the damage is not very deep. Car putty becomes firmer and harder, but dries quickly leaving less room for error than plasterboard.
Step 4. Let the product dry and stabilize
-
If the door has a textured surface, try to lightly score the grout when it is almost completely dry to even out the area of damage to the rest of the door.
Step 5. Sand the surface with fine sandpaper
Step 6. Wipe the door with a clean cloth
Step 7. Inspect the repair
At this stage you have to evaluate whether or not you are satisfied with the work.
-
You can decide to apply another coat of putty to better level the damaged part.
-
You can improve surface processing by using the edges of a folded sheet of sandpaper or an emery block.
-
If you are happy with the result, move on to the next step.
