Car journeys are long and boring, with straights that seem endless. However, sometimes "nature calls" and not always at the most appropriate time. Depending on your level of preparation, there are some solutions to manage your physiological needs during a long road trip.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Urinating Inside the Vehicle
Step 1. Bring a urinating device with you
Before packing your bags and leaving for your trip, buy one of these tools and remember to bring it with you. Disposable ones are the best, as they are simple to use. If you are not familiar with these devices, it is worth buying several models and bringing them all. Alternatively, you can just urinate in a bottle.
- There are many urination devices on the market, for both male and female users.
- If you don't want to spend money on a single-use tool, you can use what you already have available. Many men use a milk bottle, but this is quite bulky and takes up space in the car.
- Gatorade bottles have a wide opening and are often the favorite of many women.
Step 2. Bring some cleaning material
Since the same hand (or hands) you use to pee will be the same one you drive with, you need to have something to clean yourself. Keep alcoholic sanitizer, wet wipes, or kitchen paper soaked in soapy water in your car.
- You can buy both sanitizer and wet wipes in supermarkets. If you don't want to spend too much money, buy travel packs.
- To make kitchen paper soaked in soapy water, place it under running water. Next, take a dose or two of liquid hand cleanser and rub it on the sheets until foam forms. When finished, squeeze the sheet to remove excess moisture and fold it as you like.
Step 3. Place the urinating device in the car, next to your seat
When you're ready to hit the road, make sure it's close at hand and available, should you need it. In theory, you shouldn't waste time looking for it.
You can put it in the center of the gearshift tunnel, in the door pocket or in the dashboard compartment
Step 4. Pull over to the car
When you feel the urge to pee, pull over to a safe place. You can do it on the side of the road, at the ring road exit or in another safe place, away from traffic. For safety reasons, do not park along the carriageway of a freeway or motorway. Do not use the device to urinate while driving.
Step 5. Pee into the device
Grab it from where you stored it. Remove the cap, if equipped, and tilt the container towards the body, so that the bottom is at 45 ° to the floor. Urine into the opening trying to aim downward.
If your device has a cap, remember to put it back on when finished
Step 6. Clean your hands using the materials you brought with you
Grab a wet wipe or alcoholic sanitizer and clean your hands before resuming your journey. If there is a garbage can nearby, you can throw the device away. If not, set it aside for now; if you think you still need it soon, store it near you. Alternatively, you can get a second disposable device if you have one.
Do not throw the container outside the vehicle. This is a traffic violation and you can incur a fine
Step 7. Resume your journey
Keep driving to your destination with some relief. Remember to drink enough water, as dehydration causes fatigue, a dangerous companion while driving.
Method 2 of 3: Urinating Outside the Vehicle
Step 1. Bring all materials with you to ensure good hygiene
It is always a great idea to wash your hands after peeing, no matter where you are. You can use an alcoholic sanitizer, wet wipes, or kitchen paper soaked in soapy water.
- You can buy sanitizer and wet wipes at any supermarket. If you don't want to buy in large quantities, travel packs are also available.
- To make the soaked kitchen paper, take a sheet of paper and put it under running water until it is wet. Add a drop or two of liquid hand soap and scrub it into a lather. When finished, squeeze the paper to remove excess moisture and fold it as you like.
Step 2. Pull the car over
When you feel the need to pee, you need to park in a safe place out of the reach of prying eyes. Make sure it's a place far enough away from traffic to enjoy some privacy. Try to get off the main roads; avoid pulling along a motorway or freeway, for safety reasons.
Step 3. Get out of the car
As soon as you are outside, look around. Make sure there is no one who can see what you are about to do. If you notice other people, change places. Also, you need to make sure you don't pee on private property.
Step 4. Look for a discrete spot
If you are in a remote place (near a forest or bushes), move several meters away from the car and find a semi-hidden spot. That way, no person on foot or by car will be able to see what you are about to do.
- Go behind a tree, a large bush, in the middle of tall grass or behind a fence.
- When you have found a suitable place, satisfy your physiological needs. If you're a girl, drop your pants down to your knees and squat behind a tree or bush.
- If there is no way to hide, open the passenger door to protect you from the eyes of others. Turn your back to the street, and if you're a girl, drop your pants down to your ankles and curl up. Try to squat as close to the car as possible for maximum privacy.
- Be careful that no one catches you, you could risk a fine for indecency. Depending on the state you are in, the fines could be as high as 500 euros.
Step 5. Put your clothes on and get back in the car
When you're done, pull yourself together and get in the car. Before resuming your trip, you should wash your hands with the material you brought with you.
Step 6. Resume driving
Make your way to your destination, remembering to drink enough water. Dehydration causes fatigue which can lead to problems when driving.
Method 3 of 3: Stop at a Gas Station
Step 1. Bring cleaning materials with you
In case public toilets don't have soap, it's worth being prepared. Alcoholic sanitizer or wet wipes are simple and effective solutions.
You can buy both in the supermarket. If you don't want to buy bulky packs, there are also travel packs
Step 2. Search for the nearest petrol station
When you need to pee, look for the nearest rest area, paying attention to the signs. In most cases you will also be able to find information on the distance to which it is located.
Optionally, you can download a mobile application that locates the closest food and service areas. This way, as soon as you feel the need to urinate, you can open the application and find a public toilet
Step 3. Pull over to the service area
Once found, enter the parking lot. You can stretch your legs, take some pictures (if the landscape deserves them) or go directly to the bathroom.
In most petrol stations you will find vending machines, areas dedicated to pets, a bar and even free wi-fi
Step 4. Pee in the bathroom
Regardless of whether it is divided by gender or private, all rest areas are equipped with bathrooms with toilets and urinals. If it is not accessible at the moment due to ongoing cleaning, you can wait a few minutes or drive to the next gas station.
For women: Hopefully the bathroom is clean and you can sit down to provide for your needs. If not and the toilet is so filthy that you can't sit down, you can still use it. Stand on top of the cup and crouch over it
Step 5. Get clean
If soap and water are available in the bathroom, use them to wash your hands. If not, you can use the material you brought with you.
Step 6. Return to the guide
Keep traveling to your destination, remembering to drink enough along the way. Dehydration causes sleepiness behind the wheel, which is very dangerous.
Advice
- If you are a boy and you are not driving, you can try to urinate on the outside of the window. Be aware, however, that this is a behavior punishable by law and, at best, you will have to pay a hefty fine.
- If you don't want to stop the car and pull over, adult diapers are a good alternative.
- Women squatting near the car should be careful not to urinate on their clothes or shoes.
- If you are a male, you can urinate hidden by the open rear door. In this case, direct the flow to the ground without creating a large arc, to prevent urine from shining in the light of oncoming car headlights, distracting drivers.
- Keep plastic bags or sheets handy for extreme cases. Put them on the seat before you pee on yourself so you don't get them dirty.
