A work program is an educational plan on what you will teach during each lesson during the school year. It is an important and useful document that needs to be made.
Steps
Step 1. Check if your school has a pre-printed form
They may want it to be done in a certain way, and / or have a preprint available.
Step 2. Check out other colleagues' programs
Preferably take a look at the program left by your predecessor, but if it's not available, look at a colleague's.
Step 3. If you need to build it from scratch, make a word file and insert a table, or create a worksheet
Arrange 5 columns: Date, Topic, Skills, Resources, and Evaluation.
Step 4. Start by dividing the year into periods
How many modules are needed? Three modules can be easily broken down into one module per quarter. Give yourself a couple of weeks at the end of each module for repetition and evaluation - or games. Also consider a week of introduction to the module.
Step 5. Break each module into units
For example, you could articulate a sociology module on the family into the following units: * Marriage & Divorce * Births & childhood * Domestic abuse * Family history * Marxist thinking * Feminist thinking * Functional thinking.
Step 6. Determine how much time to spend on each of these units
If the above module takes a quarter then you should spend about 2-3 weeks on each unit.
Step 7. Now for each unit, determine how to conduct the lesson
Try to offer a variety of practical, theoretical, group, individual activities, or with teacher guidance. For unity focused on marriage and divorce you could: have a family tree drawn, or explain the theory while students take notes, or discuss why marriage is no longer so popular, or you could find texts on marriage and make posters using the information, or have a look at the official statistics and have some questions answered, or have them use the internet to make flyers or write quizzes / crosswords for each other.
Step 8. Follow this procedure for each unit and complete the column relating to the topic in your document
Step 9. Now think about the resources needed
Textbooks? Large sheets and markers? Computer? Write them down in the resource column.
Step 10. The main skills include:
- Application of numbers - Communication - ICT. As for the example of the family, the evaluation of official statistics could be part of the application of numbers, any discussion or theme could be part of communication, and the use of the PC in communication and information technology (ICT).
Step 11. Do not forget that you are trying to promote equality and diversity through your teaching, so do not neglect intercultural case studies, examples from different cultures, references to people with disabilities and gender equality
Step 12. The evaluation column can be completed with the information acquired at the end of each lesson
It can be done through questionnaires, written texts, reading their posters, or listening to their conversations.
Advice
- Try to balance the activities in such a way that they are spread equally.
- Create your educational program with your PC to have the possibility to modify, cut and paste as you wish.
