Manga art can be an incredible skill when it is well mastered. It's simple and easy, and with practice it can become a talent that can help you in many ways. For example to create projects (at school), design clothes and much more. One of the most satisfying things is to bring your character to life, and customize it with clothes and other accessories. Read on to learn how.
Steps
Step 1. Start with the basic frame, with lines indicating your character's bones and points representing joints
As a reference, you can buy one of those modeling dolls found at craft stores, or you can gaze at yourself in the mirror. Making the pose realistic is important, but start with something very simple, like a person standing with their hands behind their back. Draw a wide circle for the hips, with the legs connected.
Step 2. Draw an oval / egg shape for the head
Step 3. Add some "skin"
Draw circles / ovals around your lines, once again making sure they are realistic. If you are a man, start by drawing men, if you are a woman, start by drawing a woman. Start according to your gender, and learn more about the male / female body before drawing characters of the opposite sex. Turn the points into large circles, for example, around the knees (these will eventually form the kneecaps).
Step 4. Soften the lines and add life to the design
Women have a thinner waist, while a man's is less defined. Add some lines for the neck and create triangular shapes for the feet. Erase all the original "skeletal" lines leaving only the outline.
Step 5. Draw the clothes and decorations
You can basically design any dress, but an important part is the folds. These make the design look realistic (again this key word). Either way, start out elementary: a simple tunic or something. If you need help, grab a dress and hang it the same way. Gravity also applies to fabrics, so make sure they fall out the right way.
Step 6. Buy an inexpensive sketchbook and draw one drawing a day
You will soon notice the difference.
Advice
- Visit the DeviantArt site and search for "Anime", and choose a drawing to try and make a draft of it. This way you can observe it and create a similar one. This can help you improve your Anime character drawing skills.
- Buy an Anime / Manga drawing manual for a more comprehensive guide.
- Watching anime as you draw helps you with facial expressions and other details, and sometimes trying to draw a character from your favorite anime - and then comparing it to the original image - can really improve your technique.
- Buy an art diary and make a note of your drawings.
