Many would like to have slender legs. It's impossible to change your genes, but you can try a few tricks to create an illusion of long, slim, sexy legs. Wearing pants in certain colors can make them noticeably longer, but making appropriate choices in hems, waistlines and shoes can also help you get the effect you've always wanted.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Finding the Right Shoes
Step 1. Your wardrobe cannot miss high heels and plateau
Wearing high shoes is the main tactic for making your legs look longer. This footwear also makes the feet extend, making the calves visibly more tapered and sculpted.
Don't wear high heels too often. Over time they can damage joints and cause chronic back pain
Step 2. Wear shoes that are a similar color to your skin tone
A shoe that blends in with the color of the skin can create a long, unbroken line when wearing skirts or shorts. The monochromatic effect and the lengthening will give an illusion of more slender legs.
Step 3. Match the shoes to the pants or socks
Again you can create an unbroken line by coordinating shoes with socks or pants. For example, try wearing black tights and a pair of black high-heeled shoes. The monochromatic effect creates clean lines, so the eye will flow from the beginning of the leg to the floor without interruption.
Step 4. Avoid shoes with ankle straps
The horizontal straps immediately cut the legs, making them appear shorter. The ankle strap has the opposite effect to high heels and V-neck models. If you love this type of footwear, try to wear socks in the same color as the strap, to avoid breaking the vertical line.
Step 5. Wear high boots
Those above the knee can create a clean, unbroken line from the thigh to the floor. Knee-high boots have a similar, but less pronounced effect; ankle boots, on the other hand, cut the leg right above the foot. As with the ankle strap, they make your legs look shorter than they actually are.
Ankle booties with a V-neck instead of a horizontal hem are the exception to this rule. A pointed neckline can even help on its own to make the legs look longer, in fact it creates an illusion of continuity
Step 6. Choose a pointed shoe
Its lengthening effect for the feet (and legs) will be double. First, pointy shoes usually have at least 3 to 5 inches of extra space, so they are longer than a rounded shoe of the same size. Secondly, the toe also creates an illusion of even longer feet (and therefore legs).
Method 2 of 4: Play with Your Own Figure
Step 1. Change your clothes
Having a slim figure will make you look taller overall by visibly lengthening your legs. Clothing that fits you bad can weigh you down, making you shorter. On the other hand, clothing that fits you perfectly will make you look slimmer. If you notice any flaws when you try on your clothes in the dressing room, take them to a tailor or learn how to hem at home.
Step 2. Solid color clothing
Try to create combinations composed mostly or entirely of a single color. When you wear one-colored clothes, it can be harder for others to understand where the legs begin and end.
All colors can help you achieve a long-limbed monochromatic effect, but the best are dark ones, such as black
Step 3. Cover your legs with dark colors
Black has a slimming effect, so it makes them look longer. You don't have to wear just one color to get this benefit. A pair of black stockings or skinny jeans go with everything.
Step 4. Insert vertical lines in your wardrobe
Details like this make the eye slide vertically, creating an illusion of length and continuity. This is why vertical lines are well known for their slimming properties. Take advantage of it by wearing pants, socks and skirts with this feature.
Cords, edges, well-defined folds and vertical rows of buttons can create the same effect
Step 5. Choose short jackets
When worn by a petite person, they help to stretch the body in general. They also level a particularly long torso, making the legs appear more slender.
- Short jackets make your legs look longer. However, if you have a long bust, avoid the shirts that leave the belly uncovered, otherwise they will lengthen the trunk even more.
- Form-fitting jackets can also make your legs look longer.
Step 6. Choose skirts and dresses well
If you are trying to balance a long torso, an A-line skirt will make it appear that the waist is higher and the legs are more slender. The empire style also suits this body type, as it can shift the focal point and give the illusion that the waistline is higher. Also, it is ideal for petite girls, as it can make them look taller.
Step 7. Look for high-waisted pants and skirts
Completely automatically, the eye thinks that the leg begins at the exact point where the waistline begins. If you wear high-waisted clothing, it will optically appear that your legs start higher than your torso. As a result, they will be visibly longer than they actually are.
Step 8. Slip the shirt into your skirt or pants
Just as the high waist makes the legs appear longer and the bust shorter, a long top can create the opposite effect. To prevent a soft-fitting shirt or blouse from shortening your legs, be sure to slip it into your pants or skirt - better be high-waisted for an even more lengthening effect.
Step 9. Avoid jeans or low-rise pants
As you can guess, they have the opposite effect to a high waist: they make your legs look shorter. If you are looking to lengthen them, you should avoid this model. Don't like the high waist? You don't have to go from one extreme to the other. Instead, simply wear pants that fit around the waist.
Method 3 of 4: Consider the Edges
Step 1. The hems should be high
An easy trick to make your legs look longer is to show them off. Wear shorts and short skirts often. The shorter the model, the longer the legs will seem.
Step 2. Wear skirts with asymmetrical hems
The straight, horizontal edges interrupt the eye and do not create an illusion of continuity. Maximize your leg length as much as possible by wearing a skirt with an asymmetrical hem. It will soften the break, allowing the eye to slide over the legs without interruption.
Step 3. Avoid skirts that reach to the calf
Since these are large muscles, this tends to be the strongest area of the legs. When a skirt comes right here, it can make even the tallest person in the world squat. Instead, go for skirts that come to the ankles, knee or even higher.
Step 4. Choose baggy pants that fully cover the legs
Loose pants that skim the top of the foot will make your legs look slimmer, while at the same time creating an illusion of continuity that will make them visibly longer. Instead, shorter pants cut the legs, while models that touch the floor are too long and will make you look shorter.
Method 4 of 4: Contouring the Legs
Step 1. Exfoliate your legs with an exfoliating scrub or shower gel
Just like many people do facial contouring, others use this technique to make their legs longer and more sculpted. Before you start, you need a neutral foundation you can work on. A scrub will remove dead skin cells, leaving your legs smooth, clean and free of blemishes.
Step 2. Hydrate your legs
Apply your favorite cream. Soft legs are much easier to treat than dry ones. Furthermore, if they have a smooth and satin appearance, this will favor the formation of light points which alone will create a lengthening effect.
Step 3. Apply self-tanner to your legs
Follow the instructions on the packaging of the chosen product. Apply only a thin layer of it, focusing on the areas near the muscles and joints. Use a special glove for the application, in order to obtain a homogeneous result and to avoid staining your hands.
For a less permanent effect, you can use a slightly darker bronzer or foundation instead of a self-tanner. When using these products make sure you blend them well with your fingers making small circular movements
Step 4. To create highlights, use a moisturizer that brightens or contains gold flecks
Choose a second moisturizer to brighten the skin. Apply it to the points of the legs that naturally reflect light: along the shins, in the middle of the thighs and around the calves.
Advice
- After getting dressed, examine the overall result using a full-length mirror to determine if the clothes make your legs look longer and flatter your body. If you're not sure, ask your mom or a friend for their opinion.
- When deciding what to wear, keep your overall body shape in mind. For example, if you have shapely thighs, a miniskirt will accentuate this flaw, because it will create a line that runs horizontally, thus making your legs look more stubby than long. Choose clothing items that flatter your overall figure, as well as make you look taller.
