Learning to wash quickly can have many advantages: it will be useful for example when you are in a hurry, you want to waste as little water as possible and other similar cases. With a little commitment and prudence, you can take advantage of these tips to simplify your way of washing as much as possible.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: The Basics of a Quick Shower
Step 1. Wash with cold water
Enter the box as soon as you open the water and try to finish within two minutes; by doing so you will have less desire to splash around in the shower. In addition to the speed and less waste of water, washing without using hot water improves attention, helps blood circulation, stimulates weight loss, has positive effects on stress and helps the muscles to relax after exertion.
Step 2. Do something else while waiting for the water to heat up
If you really don't want to throw yourself under cold water, turn on the tap and take advantage of the wait by doing something else. Depending on the efficiency of your boiler and how many other people are already washing, you may find that the optimal temperature is reached almost immediately or that it takes a little longer; do some quick tasks in this range:
- Undress, prepare the clothes you will wear after the shower, or any other object you will need during the day;
- Take the products you will need to wash yourself: prepare the shampoo, conditioner, soap, talcum powder, deodorant, towel and anything else that will be useful for you;
- Brush your teeth while waiting; when the water has reached your preferred temperature, you can complete the job in the shower: spit the toothpaste and rinse your mouth while you wash to waste less water and less time.
Step 3. Measure the time you take
Set a one-, two-, or three-minute countdown timer (depending on how long you decide to take) and train yourself to be as fast as possible. When you hear the ringtone, get out of the shower, even if you haven't finished the job - feeling pressured, you'll be able to devise other ways to speed up the process. Continue in the challenge against time, trying to "file" a few seconds each week.
Step 4. Try the “sailor's shower”
Use the first 30 seconds to get wet; then keep the tap closed during the central part of the shower, while you soap yourself; finally reopen the water and rinse in less than a minute. By following these instructions you will save a lot of water and energy (used to heat it) and maybe you will feel the urge to commit to being even faster.
Method 2 of 3: Quickly Wash Your Hair
Step 1. Don't waste shampoo and conditioner
Run a small amount of shampoo onto your hands, then lather your hair quickly and thoroughly; let it rest for about thirty seconds, during which you can wash the rest of your body or do whatever you like; subsequently, rinse your hair while taking a right dose of conditioner; apply it along the entire length of your hair and let it act for a minute while you shave, use the exfoliant or whatever; finish by rinsing off the conditioner and getting out of the shower.
Step 2. Buy a 2-in-1 shampoo-conditioner
Look for a product that contains a ratio of 1 to 3 between shampoo and conditioner: in this way you can wash your hair and take advantage of the nourishing action of the conditioner at the same time. It will certainly be easier to wash off quickly if you don't have to apply and rinse two different products.
Step 3. Use high pressure water to get your hair wet quickly
Long, thick hair will be slower to wash thoroughly than a short cut. If your shower phone offers the ability to adjust the pressure, use a concentrated jet so that the water spreads quickly: the less time you take to wet your hair, the sooner you finish washing it.
Step 4. Think about whether you need to wash your hair
If you are in a hurry, you can also avoid using shampoo and conditioner for a day: rinse your head under water, but do not use any products. Aside from the time savings, remember that you don't need to use shampoo every day.
If you need to wash but don't have enough time, completely avoid getting your hair wet: keep it away from the flow of water, or use a shower cap to cover your head
Method 3 of 3: Optimize Shower Gestures
Step 1. Take advantage of an efficient way of soaping yourself
Pour a little soap on your hands, then open your fingers as much as possible; keep them open to lather your whole body faster. You will be surprised how wide the area covered by your hands is, if you commit yourself to spreading them out as much as you can: you may even be able to lather each leg in a single stroke, if you can (or almost) join your hands around it.
- Try using the scrub or abrasive sponge by applying the shower gel: by doing this you will be able to quickly wash a larger surface.
- Perform the same gestures with both hands in a symmetrical way, lathering both sides of the body at the same time: first pass on the chest and chest, under the arms, on the legs; wash the left and right sides together, keeping your fingers wide apart. Use the same process to quickly apply the shampoo to your hair and dry yourself even faster.
Step 2. Use the exfoliator
If this step is part of your daily routine, try doing it during the shower to better wash off the dry skin you remove. You won't gain much time, actually, but you will be able to optimize your morning preparation.
Step 3. Shave while you wash
You may not be able to do without a mirror to shave, but it will still be great to use this moment to shave other parts of your body - try shaving your chest, legs or any other area that needs a touch up. Cover the area with shaving cream or soap, create a nice lather and pass the razor gently and precisely, letting the running water remove the cut hair.
This solution is great for quick touch-ups: if you need to shave a very hairy area, you could run the risk of clogging the shower drain
Advice
- Wash your body while you wait for the conditioner to work on your hair.
- Use the bubble bath instead of a regular bar of soap.
- Listen to rhythmic music: songs with a quick and energetic tempo will help you be faster during the shower.
- Do the same movements and follow the same process every day.
- It will help to use a body brush, an abrasive sponge or a shower towel: pour in some shower gel and use the object of your choice to lather quickly, then rinse quickly. A sponge (natural or curtain) is definitely a better choice than a cloth.
- If you want to use liquid soap to wash your private parts, check the label first, making sure it is suitable for this use.
- Timed: Set a timer or clock to check how long it takes you to shower. Commit to saving a few seconds each week, in a real challenge against time.
- Comb while you still have the conditioner in your hair: rinse it while you are still combing it, so that it does not tangle easily.
- Use the rest time of the balm to do something else: brush your teeth, shave your legs or lather your body.
- Wrap your hair in a towel if you are wearing it very long.
- Keep all the items you need while showering in one place, so you can grab them faster when you need them.
- Wash yourself using slightly colder water than usual, to stimulate yourself to be faster: the hot water would make you relax and proceed slowly and, if it were a moment of notable tiredness, you could end up standing, motionless, under the jet of the shower.
- Record the time you take to wash yourself, trying each time to be faster and faster: it will be a great stimulus. You can also listen to music by setting up a short playlist with inspiring songs.
- Use a 2-in-1 shampoo-conditioner. Soap your hair with this product, then use the shower gel on the rest of your body and finally rinse everything off at the same time - it should take less than three minutes!
Warnings
- Check the water temperature before entering the shower.
- Showering can cause bad injuries, for example if you are in too much of a hurry and don't realize you've spilled soap on the floor: if you fall and hit your head you could get really hurt.
- Do not lock the bathroom door: in the event of an accident there will be no problem providing you with quick help if the door is not locked.
