There are many different ways to do an enema at home using natural ingredients. Before undergoing this kind of treatment, it is best to consult with your doctor to make sure it is a safe practice taking into account your personal medical history.
Steps
Method 1 of 7: Enema with Olive Oil
Step 1. Mix the oil with the distilled water
Pour 30 ml of extra virgin olive oil into 1.5 liters of distilled water in a saucepan.
- The oil is a delicate emollient for the stool, it also lubricates the rectum facilitating the expulsion of waste.
-
If you want to make a slightly different enema, replace the water with a mixture of 1 liter of whole milk and 500ml of distilled water.
As the colon metabolizes milk, the bacteria that live within it develop gases, pushing the fluid deeper and thus making it more effective
Step 2. Heat the solution
Put a saucepan on the stove and turn on a medium heat; the liquid should reach a temperature of 40 ° C.
If you have opted for milk, carefully check the contents of the saucepan to prevent the liquid from curdling; if this happens, do not proceed with the enema, throw the liquid and start over
Step 3. Give the enema and hold the liquid for several minutes
Do a colon cleanse and try to wait at least 5-10 minutes before evacuating.
Milk can cause a violent and rapid reaction in some people; you should at least try to give all the liquid before going to the bathroom, but beyond this indication there is no hard and fast rule regarding timing
Method 2 of 7: Enema with Lactobacillus Acidophilus
Step 1. Heat the distilled water
Pour 2 liters of it into a saucepan or kettle and bring it to 37 ° C.
- Heat it slowly on the stove over medium heat;
- The water can reach 40 ° C, but avoid that it exceeds this temperature because if it is very hot it could be dangerous for the body.
Step 2. Add lactobacillus acidophilus
Mix 5g of powder in hot water until dissolved.
- Alternatively, you can break 5 capsules of dried probiotic or use 60ml of yogurt that contains it.
- Lactobacillus acidophilus is a type of active lactic ferment, a "good" bacterium. When inserted directly into the colon with an enema, the bacterium spreads more efficiently by helping the intestines to clean up.
- This type of enema is very useful for people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, constipation, hemorrhoids or colon cancer.
Step 3. Run the enema and hold the liquid for 10 minutes
Insert the solution into the colon and try not to go to the bathroom for 10 minutes.
- If you can't, probiotics can't penetrate deep enough to be effective.
- Waiting for longer increases the effectiveness of the enema, but you should typically pass stool within 20 minutes.
Method 3 of 7: Saline Enema
Step 1. Heat distilled water to a comfortable temperature
Use 2 liters and bring it to a temperature between 37 and 40 ° C.
Pour it into the saucepan or kettle; put the pan on the stove over medium heat until the liquid reaches the desired heat level
Step 2. Dissolve the sea salt in the water
Add 10 g and mix until dissolved.
- The enema prepared with sea salt is one of the most delicate and represents a valid solution for people who have never used one. Salt reduces the amount of water that is absorbed by the bloodstream, but does not draw or supply liquids from / to the colon; for these reasons it is more tolerable than other solutions.
- For a more intense treatment, you can use 60 g of Epsom salt which contains a high dose of magnesium; in this way, the amount of water in the intestine increases, "washing" the colon more quickly. However, do not use this substance if you suffer from stomach pain, nausea or vomiting.
Step 3. Continue with the process and hold the liquid as long as possible
Do the enema in the traditional way and resist as much as possible before going to the bathroom, in order to maximize the beneficial effects.
- Remember that the solution prepared from sea salt should be held for no more than 40 minutes.
- The one made with Epsom salt acts more quickly, must be expelled after 5-10 minutes and cannot be held for more than 20 minutes.
Method 4 of 7: Lemon Juice Enema
Step 1. Heat the distilled water
Use a kettle or saucepan to heat 2 liters of it over medium heat on the stove.
You should bring it to your natural body temperature, the ideal one is between 37-40 ° C
Step 2. Pour in some fresh lemon juice
Incorporate 160 ml and mix well to even out the two liquids.
- Three medium-sized fruits should be enough to get this dose of juice; remember to filter it before diluting it in water for the enema.
- Lemon juice cleanses the colon of excess stool and at the same time balances the pH of the organ.
- This type of enema, when used once a week, can soothe the discomfort caused by colitis and chronic constipation.
- The acidity of lemon juice can irritate the intestinal mucous membranes and therefore cause some cramps; as a result, this enema is not suitable for people with a particularly sensitive digestive tract.
Step 3. Add the liquid and hold it for several minutes
Proceed with the enema and try not to go to the bathroom for 10-15 minutes or as long as you can resist without cramping or severe pain.
Since lemon juice is so acidic, you may have trouble holding it for a long time; however, you should try to wait 5 minutes before evacuating to enjoy the benefits of cleansing
Method 5 of 7: Enema with Milk and Molasses
Step 1. Heat the whole milk
Pour 250-500ml into a saucepan and heat it on the stove over medium to medium-high heat until it starts to boil slightly.
- Mix it and heat it very carefully to prevent it from curdling; do not use curdled milk to make the enema.
- This type of enema is very effective in cleansing the colon of excess stool; causes a violent intestinal reaction and for this reason it is best to use it with caution, as a last resort.
Step 2. Add some molasses
Remove the pan from the heat and mix 250-500ml of black molasses until the two ingredients are well blended.
- The dose of molasses should be equal to that of milk.
- The sugars present in both ingredients nourish intestinal bacteria by triggering gas formation and pushing the enema deeper into the digestive tract; sugars also draw moisture to the colon, facilitating the passage of excrements.
- Know that this solution is known to cause intense cramps.
Step 3. Let it cool down slightly
Store the liquid at room temperature until it is safe to use inside the body.
The ideal temperature range is between 37 and 40 ° C
Step 4. Do the enema and avoid expelling the liquid for as long as you can resist
When it is cold enough, introduce it into the colon and hold it as much as possible before evacuating.
- At a minimum, try to administer all of the solution before going to the bathroom; proceed quickly to increase the chances of using all the liquid.
- Remember that this is one of the most confusing home enemas; you should use a disposable bag or replace the tube. Keep thick towels handy in case of leaks or early bowel movements.
Method 6 of 7: Enema with Garlic
Step 1. Combine the garlic with the water
Take a non-aluminum saucepan and add two crushed cloves of garlic to half a liter of distilled water.
- If they are relatively small, you can use up to three wedges.
- Garlic removes excess mucus from the liver and intestines; as it possesses natural antiseptic properties, it is commonly used to treat intestinal worms, parasites, yeast and bacterial infections.
Step 2. Simmer it for 15 minutes
Put the pan on the stove and bring the garlic to a boil over high heat, reduce the heat to medium-low and let the liquid simmer for a quarter of an hour.
Step 3. Wait for it to cool and filter the liquid
Remove the saucepan from the stove and let the solution become cold at room temperature; at this point, you can filter the solid elements.
- The enema should reach a temperature between 37 and 40 ° C.
- Filter the liquid using a fine mesh sieve. Discard the garlic pieces and hold the solution; use only the liquid to make the enema.
Step 4. Add more distilled water
Pour in enough to bring the liquid volume to 1 liter.
You should use lukewarm water, the enema temperature should not drop below 37 ° C
Step 5. Run the enema and hold the liquid for up to 20 minutes
Introduce the solution into the colon and keep it for up to 20 minutes.
Try to resist at least 10 minutes before going to the bathroom; the longer you wait, the more effective the treatment is, but do not exceed the limit of 20 minutes
Method 7 of 7: Enema with Tea
Step 1. Bring the water to a boil
Pour 1 liter of distilled water into a saucepan or kettle.
Step 2. Pour it over the tea or herbal tea leaves
Place three chamomile or green tea bags in a non-aluminum bowl and submerge them with boiling water; let them macerate for 5-10 minutes.
- You can replace the sachets with 30 g of loose leaves.
- Chamomile tea can be steeped for 5-10 minutes, but green tea no longer than 5 minutes.
- Chamomile helps to calm and cleanse the colon as well as the liver; this type of enema is also used to treat hemorrhoids.
- Green tea contains valuable antioxidants that improve intestinal health; an enema of this type is generally used to restore the correct bacterial flora of the gastric tract.
Step 3. Remove the tea leaves
After the infusion time has elapsed, remove the sachets from the water.
If you have opted for the leaves, filter them through a fine sieve; throw them away and keep only the liquid. Use only the infusion to make the enema
Step 4. Add more water as needed
You can dilute the tea with more distilled water to bring the volume back to 1 liter.
- Make sure the water you add is lukewarm.
- The solution must reach a temperature of 37-40 ° C before inserting it into the colon.
Step 5. Proceed with the enema and hold the fluid for several minutes
Introduce the solution into the rectum using traditional methods and try not to evacuate for 20 minutes.
To enjoy the benefits of the procedure, you should wait at least 10 minutes before going to the bathroom
Advice
Just like tea, you can use coffee too
Warnings
- Give the liquid when you are near the toilet, especially if you use a solution that works within a few minutes.
- Use only filtered or distilled water; never use the hard one, which contains chlorine or other contaminants.
- Unless advised by your doctor, never get more than one enema per week.
