The Clarisonic is a specific skincare brush whose patented system performs an oscillating action at high speed that is effective to gently clean and exfoliate the skin. With frequent use, residue of moisturizer and even mold can build up on the head. For this reason, dermatologists recommend replacing it every three months or so. In any case, with regular cleaning, it is possible to extend the useful life of the product and also save money. To clean the Clarisonic, simply detach the head from the handle and wash it with soapy water. It is also possible to thoroughly sanitize the various components of the device by letting them soak in an entirely natural solution.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Disassemble a Clarisonic
Step 1. Make sure it is turned off
Before you begin, make sure the power button is in the "Off" position. You certainly don't want to accidentally turn it on while cleaning!
Clean it keeping a safe distance from the charger or other electrical personal care devices that could be damaged by water
Step 2. Unscrew the head to remove it from the handle
Grab the print head by the edges and rotate it counterclockwise. This way it will detach from the slot that keeps it attached to the handle of the device. Remove surface residue of dust and grime from the bristles with one hand, then set the brush head aside.
- Do not try to clean the Clarisonic without first removing the print head. The most stubborn dirt usually hides inside.
- You may notice a buildup of dirt or mold residue inside the device as well.
Step 3. Unplug the print head connector
Under the head you should see a separate piece of plastic whose function is to attach it to the handle. Press the concave parts on the sides of this piece and lift it straight off the base. You can clean it separately.
- Put it in a safe place. If you lose it, the head will no longer be able to be fixed properly.
- Since you've removed the print head, take the opportunity to also clean all the components you have access to.
Method 2 of 3: Thoroughly clean the print head
Step 1. Squeeze a few drops of antibacterial soap onto the brush head bristles
For best results, you should use a product that is strong enough to kill any bacteria left on the head. Apply the soap directly to the bristles and let it soak in.
- You probably have antibacterial hand soap or a mild liquid dish detergent at home. These products are effective and allow you to do a good job.
- Some dermatologists also recommend using a sulfate-containing shampoo, as it is specifically formulated to remove oil, dead skin cells and other dirt.
Step 2. Gently scrub the print head
Massage the bristles with your fingers to form a full-bodied foam. Make sure the soap can soak up to the base of the bristles. Continue scrubbing the print head until all visible dirt and stains are removed.
- Rubbing the bristles on the palm of the hand allows you to create greater friction, thus removing encrusted residues.
- Reapply the soap if necessary and repeat until you get a satisfactory result.
- Get used to cleaning the Clarisonic head every 2 or 3 uses.
Step 3. Refine the internal parts of the print head by cleaning them with alcohol
Wash the area where the brush head connects to the handle with soapy water, then rinse it off. Soak a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol and use it to clean deep compartments that you can't reach with your hands. Pay particular attention to places where make-up residues and other substances have accumulated.
An old toothbrush is also useful for cleaning compartments and crevices
Step 4. Rinse each component thoroughly with warm water
Rinse the head, connector and handle with running water. Continue until the water runs clean. Once finished, the Clarisonic will be as good as new!
- Shake it to remove excess water and prevent limescale from forming on the bristles.
- It is not always possible to completely remove the stain from the head. Don't worry: the bristles will still be clean and a speck will certainly not affect the performance of the Clarisonic.
Step 5. Let the print head air dry
Lay the individual pieces on a clean towel. Once dry, refit the Clarisonic and start using it again as usual.
- To speed up drying, turn on the bathroom fan to circulate more air around the room.
- Do not try to speed drying with other tools, such as a hair dryer. Otherwise you risk damaging the delicate mechanisms that regulate the operation of the device.
Method 3 of 3: Disinfect the Head
Step 1. Fill a container with isopropyl alcohol
If the Clarisonic is badly stained or has traces of mold, it needs to be treated with extra care. Pour the alcohol into a bowl. Make sure you use enough to fully submerge the brush head.
- Isopropyl alcohol is a very effective and practical disinfectant.
- Don't have isopropyl alcohol available? Try using distilled or apple white vinegar instead, which has antifungal properties.
Step 2. Put the head in the alcohol solution
Make sure the bristles are facing down. The alcohol will begin to act immediately, killing the bacteria and dissolving the encrustations. While soaking, you may even see for yourself how dirt residues dissolve.
- If you use vinegar, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to enhance its antifungal properties and make the head smell fresh and pleasant.
- While the head is soaking, you can clean the handle of the device with a damp cloth.
Step 3. Leave the head to soak for 30 minutes
To make sure you sterilize it thoroughly, you need to leave it in the alcohol for at least half an hour. After 30 minutes, shake it gently in the solution to remove the last residue of dirt and excess alcohol.
- If any visible dirt remains on the head surface, wipe it off with a cotton swab or toothbrush.
- Don't worry about damaging the print head. Since the bristles are non-porous, they will not absorb alcohol or any other solution used to clean them.
Step 4. Rinse the head thoroughly
Run hot water over the head to remove the last traces of alcohol. Then, let it dry separately from the rest of the device. Once dry, you can reassemble the Clarisonic and use it again to keep your skin soft and clean!
Try to disinfect the Clarisonic about once a month to keep it in good condition
Advice
- Frequent cleaning can extend the life of the head, but it is still a good idea to replace it every three months or so.
- Replace the brush head immediately if the bristles are damaged or missing.
- Store Clarisonic using the lid provided to minimize exposure to bacteria.
Warnings
- If your dry bristles smell bad or have a slimy coating, they may have become moldy. In this case, try to disinfect them thoroughly.
- Do not share the Clarisonic head with other people. Otherwise you risk contaminating the skin, nullifying the benefits of the brush and increasing the predisposition to suffer from imperfections or infections.
