If you appreciate the energizing effects of caffeine, but hate the taste of coffee or are looking for a quick way to consume it, then you will be pleasantly surprised by the ease of preparation and the extravagance of these jellies. You can make them with either powdered caffeine or a caffeine-based energy drink.
Ingrediants
With Caffeine Powder
Portions:
15
- 100-600 mg of powdered caffeine.
- 1 pack of 85 g of flavored gelatin.
- 240 ml of boiling water.
- 240 ml of cold water.
With an Energy Drink
Portions:
15
- 1 pack of 85 g of flavored gelatin.
- 480 ml of energy drink divided into two halves.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: With Caffeine Powder
Powdered caffeine must be precisely measured before adding it to the gelatin mixture. Consider purchasing a precision scale that also indicates milligrams.
Step 1. Pour the powdered caffeine into a medium-sized bowl and add the powdered gelatin
Step 2. Pour boiling water over the powders and whisk with a whisk for two minutes or until the gelatin has dissolved
Step 3. Add the cold water while stirring with the whisk to mix the ingredients
Step 4. Place the shot glasses (60ml) on a cookie sheet
Step 5. With a ladle pour the mixture into the glasses in equal parts
Step 6. Leave the jellies in the refrigerator for 2-4 hours
Method 2 of 2: With an Energy Drink
Alternatively, you can replace powdered caffeine with a caffeinated soda, such as energy drinks. Choose the flavor of the jelly that combines with that of the soft drink.
Step 1. Pour 240ml of soft drink into a saucepan
Step 2. Pour the gelatin into the liquid and wait for it to rehydrate for 1-2 minutes
Step 3. Heat the mixture over low heat for 5 minutes, stirring with a whisk
Step 4. Add another 240ml of soda and stir to combine
Step 5. Place 15 shot glasses (60ml) on a baking sheet
Step 6. With the ladle pour the gelatine into the glasses in equal parts
Step 7. Leave them in the fridge for 2-4 hours before serving
Advice
- Depending on the energy drink, the sugar content may affect the consistency of the jelly. If you've made shots with an energy drink but they feel too mushy, add another can of gelatin to the recipe the next time you make them. Alternatively, choose a sugar-free soda.
- You can try various dosages of caffeine but remember that in small doses it is a stimulant, but in high doses (2 grams) it can kill you. If the recipe yields 15 shots of 60ml, multiply the caffeine content by 15. For example, to make jellies that contain 25mg of caffeine, you will need 375g of this ingredient. One can of cola is about 50mg of caffeine, one espresso is 100mg and two and a half cans of Red Bull are about 200mg.
- If you want cherry jellies, add a pack of flavored jelly with 240ml energy drink and 240ml vodka.
- Purchase pure caffeine powder in-store or online. The pills can be ground but they do not dissolve very easily in the jelly due to the coatings of the tablets. Also, because you can't exactly control the distribution of caffeine in this formulation, you risk consuming too much.
- Pure caffeine alone tastes bitter but will be practically imperceptible as it is used in minimal quantities in this recipe.
- Add some other stimulating ingredients like those found in energy drinks (ginseng and liquid B vitamins) for an extra boost of energy! Make sure the dosage is within safe limits as indicated on the product label. Remember that it is easy to consume a lot of jellies in a short time and too much stimulants can be dangerous.
Warnings
- Caffeine is no joke. It is beneficial when used in small amounts, but it could even kill you if you overdo it (more than 2g). An overdose of caffeine is not pleasant at all and in large quantities leads to a horrible death. If you start feeling nervous without being able to rest, stop consuming the jellies and wait for the symptoms to subside. Consider reducing the dose in future preparations.
- Do not exceed the amount of 50mg of caffeine for each jelly otherwise it will be bitter and you may suffer from unpleasant side effects.
