Harley Quinn, Daddy's Lil Monster, is a famous character from the Batman universe. One of his latest versions is the one portrayed in the movie Suicide Squad, characterized by disheveled pink and blue pigtails. Her style can be defined as cheeky, impudent and cheerful. Whether you want to cosplay or do your hair like her just for fun, there are several ways to mimic her look.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Using a Tinted Lacquer
Step 1. Brush your hair and part your hair in the center
To get a neat parting, use the handle of a long comb. Harley Quinn's hair is disheveled, but for now you need to keep it neat. You can create the disheveled effect later.
Step 2. If necessary, create soft waves
Harley has disheveled hair. Having soft waves or curls helps to achieve this look more easily. Do you have straight hair? Create soft waves using a curling iron with a thick wand. You can also spray a dry texturizing spray to make them more voluminous. It is not necessary to make a particularly neat or perfect hairstyle.
Step 3. Gather your hair in two high ponytails, but leave some loose strands to frame your face
Secure each pigtail with a hair tie. The pigtails should be positioned above the eyebrows and slightly behind the ears. Leave some loose locks in the front hairline area - this is one of the main features of Harley's look.
If you wear bangs, you can safely leave it loose
Step 4. Spray the colored hairspray on the hair
Use a blue hairspray for the left pigtail and a red or soft pink hairspray for the right. Apply it from the center of the pigtail to the ends, making sure to treat one small section at a time. There is no need to dye your hair evenly - irregularities are just fine to best mimic Harley's look.
Lacquer can get dirty. Wear an old shirt or wrap your shoulders with a towel. It is also useful to use plastic gloves
Step 5. Wrap a thin section around the base of each pigtail
Grab a thin strand of hair from the bottom of the left pigtail. Wrap it around the base to hide the elastic, then secure it with a bobby pin. Repeat the process with the right pigtail.
- Finish wrapping the lock at the bottom of the pigtail for a flawless effect.
- You can also wrap a blue ribbon around the left pigtail and a red one around the right. Secure it with a bobby pin or double-sided tape.
Step 6. Back the pigtails if necessary
If the hair is voluminous and the preparations made so far have contributed to the creation of a disheveled effect, then you do not have to backcomb it. If, on the other hand, they continue to be smooth, backcomb the lower half of the pigtails. Are they still too thin? Back them up to the base, where the rubber bands are.
Step 7. If necessary, fix with lacquer
Do you have naturally curly or wavy hair? The colored lacquer should suffice to set the seal. If they are smooth, try using a light hold hairspray.
Part 2 of 2: Using Hair Chalk
Step 1. Brush your hair and part in the center using a long-handled comb
Work from the forehead to the nape of the neck.
Harley Quinn has unruly hair, but you can take care of that trait eventually. For now you need to keep them in order
Step 2. Gather your hair in two high ponytails and secure them with rubber bands
You need to place them on the top of the head, higher than the eyebrows and behind the ears. Detangle them as much as possible with a comb or brush. Leave a section of about 3 cm loose on each side of the head.
Step 3. Do you have dark hair?
Moisten them. Chalks can be applied to both wet and dry hair, and are most noticeable on light hair. If yours are dark blond, brown or black, do not apply chalk when they are dry, otherwise it will not show. Moisten them by sprinkling them with water, then comb them.
Only the lower half of the hair needs to be moistened
Step 4. Rub the chalk on each pigtail
You have to use a blue one for the left pigtail and a soft pink or red one for the right one. Start applying it on the central area of the pigtail and proceed to the ends. Treat a section of about 3 cm at a time.
- If you have dampened your hair, let it dry before proceeding to the next step.
- Chalks can get you dirty. Try to wear an old shirt or put a towel over your shoulders before starting.
Step 5. Fix the color with a straightener or curling iron, otherwise the chalk will go away
However, remember that residues may remain on the soleplate or iron. If you use the straightener, twist it as you straighten your hair for soft waves. If you use the iron, choose one with a thick rod for less defined curls. The heat helps to fix the chalk on the hair and keep it from going away.
In the absence of a plate or iron, you can fix the color with the lacquer. It won't be as effective, but it's better than nothing
Step 6. Wrap a section of hair around the base of the pigtails to hide the elastic
Secure the lock with a bobby pin and repeat with the other pigtail. This will make it appear that the elastic is colored. Finish wrapping the strand at the bottom of the pigtail to get a neat result.
You can also use a wide satin ribbon. Secure it with double-sided tape instead of a bobby pin. Use a blue one for the left pigtail and a red one for the right
Step 7. Back the pigtails to get your hair tousled
Only do this on the bottom half of the pigtail, up to the ends.
Step 8. Fix with a hairspray making sure to focus on the tips, where you applied the chalk
This will help you keep the color better and prevent it from fading.
Advice
- Try using a straightener to lightly curl the strands that fall over your face. This way they will take on a defined shape and frame the face better.
- If you use pink, choose a soft tone, this way it will look like a faded red. Avoid fuchsia or another type of bright pink.
- For a classic Harley Quinn look, use black lacquer or chalk instead of blue.
- You don't need to have blonde hair to mimic Harley Quinn's look.
- If your hair doesn't hold its hair well, try applying a dry texturizing spray.
- Don't aim for perfection - Harley Quinn's look is tousled.
- If your hair is too short, first gather it into two pigtails, then wrap four hair extensions around the base of each pigtail. Dye them at the end.
- Colored sprays can give off a strong odor. Use them in a well-ventilated place or turn on the fan in the bathroom.
- If you want to recreate the look Harley Quinn has in prison, pigtails should be half buns.
- If you want to get a permanent result, you will need to bleach the tips (if you are not blonde), then dye them blue and pink.
Warnings
- Do not get your hair wet, otherwise the color will go away.
- Colored hairspray can stain clothing and light hair.
- Remove the colored lacquer before going to bed, or it will stain the pillow cases.
