Are you ready for a breathtaking experience? Do you want to feel the adrenaline rush? Then bungee jumping is for you! Bungee jumping can be an incredible experience and it is good to be prepared.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Finding the Place
Step 1. Check your health condition
In general, bungee jumping is very safe, but some conditions can make it potentially dangerous. These include: high blood pressure, heart problems, dizziness, epilepsy, and injuries to the neck, back, spine or legs. If your health condition is not perfect, it is best to consult a doctor before considering bungee jumping.
- Many of the slings are tied to the ankles and knees, so they could aggravate any joint problems you suffer from.
- Injuries to the neck and back can make bungee jumping difficult due to the strong pressure exerted on these points. Talk to your doctor.
Step 2. Make sure you are of the right age
In some structures it is possible to skip to 14 years, in others it is only allowed for ages 16 and up. In many cases, if you are under the age of 18, a parent or guardian will have to accompany you and sign the release presented by the plant manager.
Step 3. Find a place to bungee jump
It is often practiced in environments characterized by spectacular scenery. Find the place you like best. There are tons of them all over the world and many tourist sites also offer the possibility of bungee jumping.
You can jump from bridges, cranes, platforms placed on buildings, towers, hot air balloons, helicopters and funiculars. Choose the place you prefer
Step 4. Check the security levels and legality of the facility
Make sure it's a legal facility and not just any guy with a rope on top of a bridge. Read reviews online and check the opinions of other users.
The SISE (Italian Standard Elastic Jump) since 2002 provides the indications for the safety of bungee jumping. Check that the system you are going to address has the SISE brand and the approval number
Step 5. Don't be afraid to ask questions
This way you can also make sure the employees know what they are doing. You can ask questions about equipment, staff training, operating standards, plant history, etc. In this way you will be able to understand how experienced and professional the plant operators are.
Step 6. Check the costs
Check the prices in time and be prepared to spend even € 100 or more. Many managers can ask for a deposit which can be around € 50 or half of the total cost in advance at the time of booking.
Step 7. Book the jump
Better to book in advance, so you can be sure that once you arrive you can skip. Some require reservations because it is necessary to make several trips to reach the place of the jump.
Part 2 of 3: Prepare
Step 1. Don't think about it too much
The more you think about it, the more you will get nervous, perhaps ending up giving up. Everyone is a little tense before a jump, don't worry.
Just because you are afraid of heights doesn't mean you won't jump. Bungee jumping is a different experience and you may not have any problems while jumping thanks to the adrenaline
Step 2. Dress appropriately
Wear comfortable clothes and keep the shirt inside your pants so it doesn't flutter and show everyone your belly. The same goes for skirts, so avoid wearing one. Clothes shouldn't be too tight or too loose. Shoes must have a flat sole and be well laced. Do not wear boots or shoes that cover the entire ankle, so as not to interfere with the harness.
Step 3. Tie your hair
If you have long hair you need to tie it up so that it doesn't get caught in the components and don't hit your eyes when jumping.
Step 4. Find out about the harness
There are different types of harnesses, but the most common are "full" ones and anklets. The anklets clip onto the ankles, but you should also have a spare harness (usually wrapped around the pelvis and chest, similar to those used in climbing).
The full body harness will allow you to move easily to turn completely and more easily. In this case, you should be equipped with a low harness, which wraps around the pelvis, along with a chest harness, or a full body harness that wraps around the body
Step 5. Think about how you will jump
There are different styles of jumping, but the most common is the swallow jump. In this case you will make a big jump from the platform keeping your arms extended to the sides and gliding like a bird to the ground. When you get to the bottom you should be able to look straight down and the deceleration will be very smooth.
Other types of jump are backward, from a railing (similar to a swallow, except you jump off the railing of bridges), the bat (you are hanging upside down from the edge of the platform and you are simply knocked down), the 'lift (you throw yourself with your feet but it can be dangerous and you risk hurting your ankles) and in tandem (you jump in two)
Step 6. Watch others jump
Take some time to relax and watch others jump before starting this experience. It will help calm your mind and nerves.
Step 7. Shave your legs
If you are going to use anklets, they will have to lift your pants to tie them. If you feel embarrassed, you can shave your legs before you go jumping.
Part 3 of 3: Jumping
Step 1. Register with the manager
You will have to pay the cost of the jump, if you have not already done so, and sign some forms and releases. While bungee jumping is a safe activity, managers will want to make sure you understand the potential risks. If you have any questions about it, ask someone from the staff.
Step 2. Prepare to be weighed
They will weigh you to use the right equipment for your build and make sure you do not exceed the weight limits of the structure.
Step 3. Climb to the top of the structure
Once you reach the top, there will be instructors who will prepare you. If you can get to the top, then you will be fine because it is one of the most scary stages.
Step 4. Listen to the instructors
Pay attention to what they tell you, it will make the jump more enjoyable. Also don't be afraid to ask questions, that's what I'm there for. The instructors will put padding on your ankles and hook the big rubber bands that will later be attached to the actual rope.
Step 5. Realize that fear is natural
Fear is the body's self-defense system. Try to control your thoughts and convince yourself that you are not hurting yourself. Once you are in the harness, things will be shipped, so just let go.
Don't look down before you jump! You will have time to look at the view during the jump. Looking down before jumping might change your mind
Step 6. Skip when one of the staff tells you to
Falling at that speed is an incredible feeling. Enjoy the jump and feel free to shout! At the end of the jump you should decelerate gently and everything will be very quiet.
After the jump, an attendant will help you free yourself from the ropes and take you back to the top, from where you jumped
Step 7. Brag about it
You just went bungee jumping - you are cool!
