Honey does not spoil over time like most foods. In fact, if it is stored in the right way, in practice it is eternal thanks to its natural acidity and the low quantity of liquids. However it can crystallize after some time; in this case you can soften it in the microwave or in hot water to make it return to a liquid state.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Into Water in a Bowl
Step 1. Boil some water or alternatively turn on the hot water tap and wait for it to reach a very high temperature
Step 2. Get a bowl that is just shallower than your honey jar
Step 3. Pour the boiling water into the bowl
Step 4. Make sure the honey jar lid is tightly closed
If water gets into the container, the honey will be spoiled.
Step 5. Put the jar in the bowl
If honey is stored in plastic, you need to wait 10 minutes before soaking it in boiling water; if, on the other hand, the jar is made of glass or other material, you can heat it immediately.
Step 6. Let it soak until it reaches room temperature
Remove the container from the water and dry the outside.
Step 7. Open the jar and insert a spoon into the honey to check if it has softened
If not, you have to repeat the process or try to liquefy it on the stove. Very large jars take longer than small ones.
Step 8. Stir the honey every 10 minutes or so to speed up the process
Method 2 of 3: Into the water on the stove
Step 1. Close the jar lid tightly
You must avoid that the water comes into contact with the honey otherwise it will go bad.
Step 2. Place a small saucepan on the stove
Place the jar in the center and fill the saucepan with water until it reaches 2/3 of the honey container.
Step 3. Turn on the stove over low heat; if the jar is glass you can use medium heat
Step 4. Stir the honey every 10 minutes, replace the lid and continue heating
Step 5. Turn off the stove and remove the jar from the water when the honey is soft enough to mix
Method 3 of 3: In the Microwave
Step 1. Make sure the crystallized honey is not in a thin metal or plastic container
If so, you can't use the microwave method.
Step 2. Remove the lid from the jar and put the honey in the microwave
Step 3. Heat it on full power for one minute
If the amount of honey is low, heat it at 20-second intervals.
Step 4. Remove the jar from the oven and try to dip a spoon into it
If the honey isn't soft enough for the spoon to move, repeat the process.
Step 5. During the process, mix the honey for one minute
Step 6. When you are not consuming honey, keep the jar tightly sealed
It could crystallize again in a week or two.
