The wobble is a very popular type of dance in the United States and is danced everywhere, from wedding receptions to nightclubs. If you haven't had the chance to learn this type of dance yet, here's everything you need to know to wobble with your friends.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Jump into the Wobble
Step 1. Immerse yourself in the rhythm
The music will start before the dance. Instead of starting to dance "cold" or starting from a straight position, listen to the music and throw yourself into the rhythm in your own way for a count of 8, until the actual dance begins.
Step 2. Skip forward
At the start of the wobble you have to jump forward with both feet, landing one step ahead of the original position and trying to land with both feet at the same time.
As soon as you land, count that step as the first of four bars
Step 3. Move with the rhythm
Rotate your hips sideways for a count of 4, always keeping in mind that the first beat will begin the moment you land on the ground.
- To “swing” your hips, swing them from side to side. You should be able to complete a full rotation from left to right in a single beat of the four-quarter rhythm.
- Try to cross your arms in rhythm as you rotate your hips.
Step 4. Jump back
After rolling your hips, you will need to prepare to move backwards. Jump backwards with both feet, landing roughly in the starting position and trying to land both feet at the same time.
As soon as you land, start counting another four-bar pass
Step 5. Move to the beat
Roll your hips sideways for another four beats, remembering that the first one will begin the moment you land.
- Remember to "rotate" your hips from side to side. You will need to make a full rotation from left to right, preferably keeping pace and completing a full turn in a single beat.
- Keep crossing your arms in rhythm as you rotate your hips.
Method 2 of 4: Move the Torso
Step 1. Turn right
Step back with your right leg, so that the toe is pointing to your starting left. The left leg should remain in the starting position, with the foot turned partially to the left.
You should keep your torso slightly turned, so that it is facing to the left. It also tilts the torso slightly backwards, to the right
Step 2. Rotate the torso
Shoulders and hips should rotate back and forth in turn, swinging the torso accordingly. When the hips are in front, the shoulders should be back and vice versa.
- Move to the right for a count of four.
- Think of a swinging flag. Try to mimic the way a flag moves with your torso, swinging and moving in the wind.
- In the meantime, the hands will also want their share. The best way to keep them occupied is to rotate them, that is, move them in a circle, keeping them on the front side of the body, approximately at chest height. Always remember to move them to the rhythm.
- The circle is not the only move available to you. You can also use your hands to point sideways, swing them, or make any other movement that feels natural to you. This part of the wobble can be customized.
Step 3. Lean left
This time you will need to step back with your left leg, so that the foot is pointing towards your starting right. The right leg should remain in the starting position, with the foot partially turned to the right.
The torso should also be slightly tilted and facing to the right. Also remember to tilt your back slightly backwards, to the left
Step 4. Spin a little more
As you did before, tilt your shoulders and hips back and forth, also rolling your torso correspondingly.
- When the hips are in the front, the shoulders should stay back and vice versa. Think of a flag moving in the wind and try to mimic the same type of movement with your torso.
- Rotate to the left for a count of four.
- Remember that your hands should also keep moving. You can keep making circles, pointing or swirling them as before, or you can try adding some variations. Remember that the important thing is to move them to the rhythm and think of something that seems natural and suited to your personal pace.
Method 3 of 4: Start Taking the Steps
Step 1. Take four steps
The easiest way to proceed is to take a different step for each of the four beats that will make up the four-quarter rhythm. Keep your body relaxed and slide your hips as you move to avoid missing out on all the fun and running out of time. The arms should rotate or swing softly.
- On the first beat, step forward with your right leg.
- In the second measure, step forward with your left leg, joining it again with your right.
- On the third measure, step back with your right leg, returning to the starting position.
- Conclude with the fourth measure, stepping back with the left leg, returning to the starting position and rejoining it with the right leg.
Step 2. Alternatively, you can increase the difficulty a little and take a cha-cha step backwards
Another popular way of performing the steps is to take a normal step forward, then back up with a cha-cha step.
- Keep your body soft, just like before, and keep swinging your hips to avoid losing the rhythm, ruining all the fun. Your arms should also rotate or sway in a relaxed way.
- In the first measure, step forward with your right leg.
- In the second measure, step forward with your left leg, joining it to the right leg.
- Between the third and fourth bars, take a cha-cha step. Basically you will have to take a step back with the right foot, with the left foot and again with the right foot, thus taking three steps in two beats. Make sure you rotate your hips more than usual as you perform the cha-cha step to emphasize the movement.
Step 3. Alternatively, you can take a step forward, step back and finish with a cha-cha step
Many people prefer to do the cha-cha step while standing still. As with the other techniques, remember to keep your body soft and swing your hips to keep going with the rhythm. The arms should rotate or swing softly, as usual.
- In the first measure, step forward with your right leg.
- On the second beat, step back with your left leg, away from the right leg.
- Between the third and fourth bars, perform a cha-cha step. Step in place with your right foot, left foot and once again with your right seat, taking three steps in two beats. However, these steps will not change the position of the feet. Also be sure to swing your hips more than usual to emphasize the cha-cha step.
Step 4. Mix the various moves
You will need to repeat the steps twice in this part of the wobble. For a change, you can always mix the various moves you have learned and use a combination of the three different techniques described above.
Method 4 of 4: Turn around and continue the pace
Step 1. Roll your hips and arms
You will need to swing your hips and arms sideways for eight beats.
- A full rotation of the hips will require you to move from left to right in a single beat.
- As for the arms, you can choose to swing one beat in alternation or two at the same time.
Step 2. Turn to the right as you twist your body
Gradually slide your feet until they are oriented 90 ° to the left of the starting position. The body will have to follow the movement of the feet.
The rotation should feel natural, so it is important to move in rhythm and turn without taking too visible steps. Keep focusing primarily on moving your hips and arms, not turning your feet
Step 3. Repeat the previous steps one more time
Once you have turned right, you will have to repeat the steps from the beginning.
- Jump forward and move to the beat.
- Jump back and move to the rhythm.
- Turn and move to the right.
- Turn and move left.
- Follow the steps.
- Rotate your body from side to side by sliding to the right. At this point you will find yourself turned 180 C ° from the original position.
- Keep spinning until you make one full rotation, or until the song ends.
