You are supposed to go to school, but want to stay home to rest and relax? Pretending to be sick is a strategy used by many people, but you risk going to the doctor if your plan doesn't work as it should. Staging a disease is an art that, when used correctly, will allow you to get exactly what you want. If you succeed in your attempt, you will enjoy bed rest without having to go to the doctor!
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Setting the Scene
Step 1. Choose the right disease
If you want to stay at home without having to go to the doctor, you have to choose a minor pathology. You will have to fake an illness that can be cured simply by staying home and resting.
- An intestinal virus is a great choice, because it prevents you from going to school, but it is usually not severe enough to require a doctor's attention.
- The worst symptoms of a virus of this type include diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal cramps.
- A fever will work too, as it gives you a great excuse to stay home, and treatment usually requires just a little rest and relaxation.
- Symptoms of fever include sweating, chills, headaches, body aches, loss of appetite, dehydration, and general weakness.
Step 2. Complain about your health condition
Usually, people don't get sick suddenly, so you'll need to start feeling sick the day before you want to stay home and tell your parents.
-
Tell your parents that you are not feeling well. You can do this with expressions similar to:
- "I have an headache";
- "Today at the canteen we ate something that tasted strange";
- "Lately many of my classmates have stayed at home, I hope not to take anything!".
Step 3. Don't overdo your staging
If you want to stay home without going to the doctor, you have to make your parents believe that you are sick, but that you do not need medical attention.
- Avoid having all the symptoms at the same time.
- Pretending to throw up can prompt your parents to take you to the doctor, so it's best to stage the other symptoms.
- Avoid showing only symptoms that your parents usually treat with medicine, such as headaches.
Part 2 of 4: Acting the Right Way
Step 1. Advance the idea that you could stay home the next day without being too tragic
At this point in your staging, you start to feel bad and need to be discreet, otherwise you risk getting caught.
- The "art" of your performance is to discreetly manifest the symptoms.
- To find the right balance, think about what happened the last time you felt bad.
-
Avoid using explicit phrases, such as:
- "I don't think I'll be able to go to school tomorrow";
- "I don't feel good enough to go to school";
- "I'm too sick to go to school."
Step 2. Change your afternoon routine
Avoid engaging in activities that you normally do when you are well, to show that you are not feeling in top shape.
- Decline invitations for activities you prefer, like watching a movie or playing a board game.
- Show disinterest in the things you usually enjoy doing.
- Contribute little to conversations, so that you seem too tired to participate.
- If your parents ask you how long you've been sick, explain to them that you've had something wrong all day.
Step 3. Eat little at the table
When your tummy really hurts, bingeing is the last thing you would do! If you have a fever, it is likely that you lack your appetite; again, you shouldn't eat a lot.
- Communicate that you need to use the bathroom and stay there for 10 minutes to give the impression that you are sick, but that your health is not so bad as to cause concern.
-
When you get back to the table, explain to your parents that your stomach hurts, using expressions such as:
- "I'm sorry I stayed in the bathroom so long, but my belly is playing strange tricks on me";
- "I don't think I can finish dinner, I don't have a good stomach at all";
- "Can I get up? My stomach hurts and I would like to lie down for a moment."
- If possible, hide snacks in your room so you can eat them later and don't go hungry during the night!
Part 3 of 4: Looking Sick
Step 1. Pretend to feel tired
Usually, being sick puts a strain on the body! Your body will work hard to fight off the intestinal virus or other illness that causes you fever, so you need to show your parents that you are being tried, because you are really sick.
- Some of the more common symptoms of fever include joint pain, fatigue, and muscle weakness.
- You can show fatigue by moving slower than you usually do, by lying on the sofa or by resting your head on the table during dinner.
- When you are tired, your body temperature can drop slightly and you will feel colder than normal. Grab a heavy blanket and use it to cover yourself when sitting on the sofa.
Step 2. Pretend a temperature rise
If you know your parents will want to touch your face or check your fever with a thermometer, you need to raise your body temperature.
- Fever is nothing more than the unusual rise in your temperature. You suffer from this symptom when your body temperature rises above the normal value, around 37 ° C.
-
Depending on the causes of your fever, other symptoms may be:
- Sweating;
- Chills;
- Headache;
- Muscle aches;
- Loss of appetite
- Dehydration;
- General weakness.
- You should pretend that you have a fever, showing symptoms and raising your body temperature.
Step 3. Raise your body temperature
Your goal is to have your face red and warm to the touch.
- Wear a sweater or warm clothes to start warming up your body.
- When no one sees you, do aerobic exercise, such as jumping, running with high knees, or push-ups, for about a minute.
- If after a minute you are still not feeling hot, repeat the exercise until you become red and sweaty.
- Do not overdo it! Avoid exceeding your limits, otherwise you risk injury. Be careful and only train until you get hot.
- Take off the extra clothes, then go to your parents right away, saying you're not feeling well. They will see you sweating and if they touch your face, they will feel hot.
Step 4. Whenever you get the chance, try to make your face redder and your neck warmer
If you show that you are hot all the time, your parents will be more likely to believe that you are sick.
- Wet a washcloth with hot water, then put it on your face and neck when no one is looking at you. Make sure the water isn't too hot, or you risk getting burned.
- Wipe off excess water with a dry cloth. You will need to look hot and slightly sweaty.
- If you can't use a cloth, rub your face with your hands. This way, you will create friction and quickly warm the face, as well as make it redder.
- Ask your parents to feel your forehead or cheek. Once you are warmed up, explain again to your parents that you are not feeling well and let them touch your forehead.
Step 5. "Trick" the thermometer
If you know that your parents will want to take your temperature, you will need to prepare in time and warm up the thermometer so that it shows a higher reading than the actual one.
- Rub the tip of the thermometer with your fingers. The faster you can do this, the sooner the thermometer will reach the desired temperature.
- If you have a heat source, such as a light bulb, hold the thermometer close to it for a few moments.
- If you are using a mercury thermometer, you can also turn up the temperature by immersing it in hot water. However, make sure the water is not boiling, otherwise the tool will explode. The water temperature should be only a few degrees higher than that of the body, around 37.5 ° C.
Part 4 of 4: Finishing the Job
Step 1. Get the supplies
Like all actors, you will need some props to show your parents that the symptoms persist and don't go away.
- Hide a glass of water near the bed. You will use it overnight to convince your parents that you really sweat.
- If you can steal an electric kettle without attracting attention, this is a better solution than a glass of water. In fact, using it you can give the impression of being hot and sweaty.
- Get a handkerchief to hide near the bed, next to the water. You will use it to get wet and to make your face red.
Step 2. Set the alarm
Wake up in the middle of the night to show your parents that you still have symptoms.
- Between 2 and 3 is the best time to wake up.
- Use the handkerchief and the water you hid near the bed to scrub your face until it turns red.
- Avoid drying your face completely so it is still slightly wet and looking sweaty.
- Go into your parents' room and ask if they can touch your forehead because you think you are sick.
Step 3. Avoid overdoing your staging
If you complain that you are very ill, your parents may seriously consider taking you to a doctor.
- If one of your parents drives you to bed and stays with you, wait a few minutes before pretending to fall asleep.
- Tell him that you are very thirsty and ask for a glass of water.
- Cover up tightly with blankets so it will seem like you are feeling cold.
- Avoid talking or complaining too much - let your acting speak for you!
Step 4. Stay in bed late in the morning
If you stay in bed, your parents will think that you are tired and that you simply need to sleep. If they think you should rest, you will be able to avoid both school and the doctor.
- If your parents come to wake you up, try to rub your face with your hands before they walk in so that you look red and hot.
- Tell your parents that you haven't slept much.
- Try to convince them that you are more tired now than last night.
Step 5. Don't abandon the part too soon
Keep "showing" symptoms during breakfast, or your parents will know that you just wanted to stay home.
- Eat little for breakfast, so you will show that you are still feeling unwell.
- Put on a thick sweater and ask for more blankets, because you really "feel" very cold.
- Rest your head on the table to show that you are really tired and disinterested.
Step 6. If you have followed all the steps carefully and your parents seem to believe you, ask if you can stay home for today
Advice
- Do not overdo it! If you act too hard, your parents will understand that you are lying and trying to stay home.
- Whenever you can, try to redden your face and warm your forehead with a warm washcloth to make it look like you have a fever.
- Pretend nothing has happened. If your plan is unsuccessful, hide your disappointment!
- Avoid using this trick often, at most 4-5 times a year, and don't use it to skip class assignments or questions.
Warnings
- If you look too sick, you risk being taken to the doctor. Make sure you don't overdo it!
- Refuse all medicines! Reply that you just need to sleep. Taking drugs when you don't need them is dangerous. If you have to take them, take them to the bathroom and throw them away. Open the sink and drink some water to "swallow" all the tablets.
- Avoid using this trick often: maximum 4 times a year. If you pretend to be sick too frequently, your parents will understand that you lie and take you to school.
- Evaluate the pros and cons of getting caught. In case you can't follow these steps carefully or your story isn't believable, ask yourself if going to school would be worse than getting in trouble for faking an illness.
