Are you stuck in the routine of your current job? Do you go to high school and don't see university in your future, but don't want to work as a waiter all your life either? Then the beauty industry is the right place for you! You could take a course after high school, but it won't be anything as boring as college. It's fun, rewarding, and has flexible hours. Plus, you get paid to make people more beautiful!
Steps
Step 1. If you are still in high school, find out if there are any vocational schools in your area
You could spend half or two-thirds of the day learning the hairdressing trade and the other part studying regular school subjects. This way, when you finish high school you will be able to enter the hair styling industry directly.
Step 2. If you have already finished high school, inquire about the professional schools for hairdressers and beauticians or ask your hairdresser which institute he attended
If you can, apply to more than one school.
Step 3. Contact the vocational schools and ask for a meeting with the counselor
Step 4. If you are accepted, sign up and take the courses
Some will focus on practice, others on theory as in traditional schools.
Step 5. After finishing the course, look for hairdressing shops or beauty salons willing to hire new collaborators
Send your application, commit yourself during the interview and you will be hired! Likewise, if you have enough money, you could open your own salon.
Step 6. Finished
Advice
- Don't expect to make a lot of money in the beginning. You will take time and you will have to constantly satisfy the customers.
- If a customer complains about their hair, always offer to fix it for free. Sure, you will lose a few euros, but you will keep an important customer.
- The hair styling industry is highly competitive. Don't be angry if you have to make several attempts to get hired, especially when you finish vocational school.
- Don't resent if a regular customer stops coming to you. It's not a personal offense, so just forget and move on.
Warnings
- Realize that you will actually have to engage in this work. This is not a way to avoid actually working; you will have to follow a school to do this job!
- If you're not the scrupulous or perfectionist type, your hair can stress you out, as it requires a lot of precision.
- It is very likely that you will have to take tests during the courses.
