If you own a Frigidaire brand dishwasher, you can clean it just like any other model. To treat the external shell you just need soap and water; this type of appliance is self-cleaning; this means you just have to put some vinegar in it and start a wash cycle. Remember not to use harsh chemical cleaners, otherwise you could damage it.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Cleaning the Exterior
Step 1. Wet a dish towel
Dip it in hot soapy water, opting for a mild detergent instead of a chemical and aggressive one; wring out the rag so that it is only damp.
Step 2. Scrub the outer panels
Use the wet cloth to remove all traces of dirt, fingerprints or streaks; when finished, the surfaces should be clean and shiny.
Step 3. Rinse the outer door
Wet another rag with pure water and use it to remove the soap traces until the water you squeeze runs clean; at the end, dry the dishwasher by dabbing it with a towel.
Make sure you do a thorough job, as detergent residues can cause damage
Part 2 of 3: Clean the Interior
Step 1. Empty the glass filter
This type of dishwasher has a compartment that collects glass fragments and you have to empty it during cleaning; grab it by the handle and push it down as you rotate it clockwise 90 °. Take the spray arm and lift it together with the filter, throw the residues in the garbage and slowly bring the element back into its seat by turning it anticlockwise by 90 °; you should hear a "click" when it fits properly.
Throw the broken glass into a thick, sturdy garbage bag to prevent it from breaking
Step 2. Clean the area under the lower basket
Extract the latter and collect the residual glass or pieces of food using a rag or sponge; inspect the drain carefully and if you notice any dirt blocking it, remove it.
Step 3. Scrub the inside surfaces
Use a damp cloth and neutral detergent to clean the inside of the appliance; be sure to wipe off any food, liquid or dirt from the walls. When finished, return the basket to its place.
However, this is an optional step; you must clean the washing chamber only if there are excessive deposits. If you do regular maintenance, chances are you can skip this step
Step 4. Provide with the self-cleaning cycle
The Frigidaire dishwasher is able to sanitize itself during normal programs. Remove all the dishes from the machine and put a cup full of vinegar in the lower basket before activating the longer wash cycle; by doing so, you should be able to sanitize the appliance and remove bad odors.
- If it is very dirty, it may be necessary to repeat the treatment more than once;
- Place the cup in a safe place, it must not move or break during washing.
Part 3 of 3: Avoiding Common Mistakes
Step 1. Do not use harsh chemicals
These substances must not be used in the Frigidaire dishwasher because they could damage it; stick to mild detergents like dish soap or natural products like vinegar.
Step 2. Remove any encrustations and traces of food before starting the washing program
Many people do not clean the bottom of the dishwasher before proceeding with internal sanitation; don't forget this fundamental step! If dirt sticks to the base for too long, it could clog the drain and trigger serious problems.
Step 3. Throw the glass away safely
When you empty the glass filter, handle each fragment carefully. Wrap the residues in cling film and place them in a cardboard box. Seal the container with duct tape and label it appropriately with "dangerous" or "broken glass" to make sure it is not thrown away with the rest of the household garbage.
